Racial Justice

The Racial Justice program supports movement building by filling in the gaps present in developing leaders, building alliances, creating advocacy infrastructure, and visioning the future. As our programming expands, our efforts will develop with a focus of trauma-centered healing. We define racial healing as a process that acknowledges, heals, transforms, and restoratively repairs ongoing wounds from the history and presence of racism and injustice. Through a healing justice framework, we are building out a plan to support organizers and advocates as they build and work in the movements that are necessary to create change in Louisiana.

The Racial Justice Program (RJP) works to address the root causes of inequities not just their manifestation, through equitable policy and narrative change work. To date, we have supported advocacy work for policy-making and policymaker accountability in the areas of the racial wealth gap, police accountability, and segregation in housing, including collaborating with housing advocates to educate renters about their rights. By shifting dominant narratives in support of racial justice, we work to make Louisiana a place where people are free to tell their own stories, own their experience, and stand in their power to correct the history shaped by white supremacy culture. This dialogue acknowledges, heals, transforms, and restoratively repairs ongoing wounds from the history and presence of racism and injustice.
