The Armature Scholarship Fund, established in 2019 through the Foundation for Louisiana, invests in the creative futures of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC artists across the state. With a commitment to equity, cultural expression, and educational access, the fund provides financial support to students pursuing post-secondary education in the arts.

Who Should Apply?
We encourage applications from:

- Individuals pursuing any post-secondary education in arts-related fields, including but not limited to: visual arts, culinary arts, theater, music, design, and dance
What You’ll Receive
In the 2024–25 cycle, the Armature Scholarship Fund awarded over $38,000 in scholarships to six emerging artists from across Louisiana. These recipients reflect the creative breadth and cultural depth of our state’s BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.
Awardees are pursuing degrees in a wide range of artistic fields, including:
- Culinary arts rooted in ancestral foodways
- Theater performance shaped by Black storytelling traditions
- Design and technical theater that bring community narratives to the stage
- Studio art exploring queer identity through mixed media
- Interdisciplinary performance inspired by Southern cultural practices
Each recipient received tailored support not only for tuition but also for living costs and academic success, including access to mentors, supplemental transportation support, and care-centered check-ins throughout the academic year.
This commitment to holistic artist support ensures that talent, not circumstance, shapes the trajectory of Louisiana’s next generation of cultural leaders.
Meet Our Artists
In 2023, the Armature Fund proudly supported:
- Kazlon Lewis, a theater artist whose creativity is rooted in New Orleans’ storytelling tradition
- Enne Samuel, a visual artist committed to redefining the aesthetics of Black femininity
“Receiving this scholarship solidified my position in the world. I’m proud to represent the future of Louisiana’s arts community.”
— Enne Samuel
Why It Matters
As public education and higher education systems face increased political and financial pressures, scholarships like Armature remain vital. In the wake of national rollbacks on affirmative action and cultural censorship, the Fund continues to provide targeted, identity-affirming support.
