Foundation for Louisiana Launches TOGETHER: Race, Place, and the Environment Initiative

BATON ROUGE, LA – September 3, 2024 – Foundation for Louisiana (FFL) is excited to announce the opening of applications for the TOGETHER: Race, Place, and the Environment initiative. This program seeks to unite community members in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas to address environmental racism and promote racial justice. The application period runs from now through September 10, 2024.

The TOGETHER initiative is designed to empower individuals who have experienced environmental racism and those committed to the fight for racial and environmental justice. Participants will engage in a series of training and strategy sessions held over four weekends in September and October, focusing on leadership development, advocacy, and community-driven solutions.

The TOGETHER initiative is reflective of the Foundation’s belief that the power to change communities lies within the people who experience its challenges firsthand,” said Charmel Gaulden, President & CEO of Foundation for Louisiana. By bringing together diverse perspectives, we are addressing the challenges our communities face today and equipping them with the tools and knowledge to lead the way forward. This initiative is about collective action and ensuring that those on the frontlines of these issues are driving meaningful change.”

The TOGETHER: Race, Place, and the Environment initiative comprises three key phases:

  • Phase 1: L.E.A.D. (Leadership, Engagement, & Advocacy Development) – Interactive sessions led by local experts on organizing, advocacy, and policy change.
  • Phase 2: Equity Caucus – Participants connect their learning to real-world policy issues relevant to their communities.
  • Phase 3: Strategy – Development of actionable, community-led projects focused on environmental justice and racial equity.

Participants will receive $150 per session, with a potential total compensation of up to $1200. Community members interested in participating can apply online at https://tinyurl.com/FFLTOGETHERBR

Applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM on September 10, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted.

ABOUT FOUNDATION FOR LOUISIANA:

Foundation for Louisiana (FFL) is a social justice philanthropic intermediary founded in 2005 as the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation to invest in the immediate recovery of Louisiana’s communities after Hurricane Katrina. While FFL was founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, our founders recognized the need to address the longstanding inequities that have shaped life outcomes for the most marginalized of Louisianans. Our programs grew in response to these needs, and today FFL focuses on racial justice, climate justice, criminal justice reform, economic justice, gender justice, and support for Louisiana's vibrant arts and culture.
